Why Rooted & Gathered Exists
For years, I’ve felt a tug on my heart.
I couldn’t always explain it. I didn’t know exactly where God was leading me or what He was asking me to do. I just knew there was something there—a desire to share, to encourage, and to somehow use the things I love to connect with other women.
So, as I tend to do, I tried to figure it out.
Was it food? Faith? Home? Hospitality? Motherhood? Raising an athlete? Sharing the things that have made our family’s life a little easier?
I explored different passions and followed different ideas, but nothing ever seemed to fit neatly into one box. Instead, one idea would lead to another, and another, and another.
Eventually, I began to wonder if maybe I wasn’t supposed to choose.
Maybe all those little tugs were leading to the same place.
Following the Tug
I wish I could tell you that Rooted & Gathered began with a perfectly mapped-out plan.
It didn’t.
It began because God put something on my heart years ago, and it never completely went away.
I’ve learned over the years to pay attention to those tugs. They’ve certainly led me in directions I never expected, but I’ve never wanted fear of the unknown to keep me from following where I believe God is leading.
And I’ve never been one to shy away from hope.
Maybe that’s why Cinderella is still my favorite Disney princess.
Yes, really.
Why Cinderella Still Matters to Me
It wasn’t until I read The Rent Collector by Camron Wright that I began to understand why stories like Cinderella have survived for generations.
Hope.
There is something in us that longs to believe the difficult chapter isn’t the whole story.
Cinderella’s circumstances were hard. She had every reason to become bitter and cynical. Yet the story asks us to keep hoping with her.
And maybe that's why we cheer so loudly when things finally change.
As The Rent Collector says:
“If every ending ended with a handsome prince, there wouldn’t be anyone left to cheer.”
That line has stayed with me.
Because life certainly doesn’t promise us a handsome prince at the end of every difficult chapter. Our stories don’t always unfold the way we thought they would.
But that doesn’t mean we stop hoping.
For me, that hope is rooted in something much greater than a fairy tale.
It’s rooted in God.
We Need People to Cheer Us On
The older I get, and the further I get into motherhood, the more I realize how much we need people in our corner.
People who remind us to keep going.
Because there are seasons when dinner feels like one more thing you have to figure out.
There are seasons when you wonder if you're making the right decisions for your children.
There are seasons when your home feels anything but peaceful.
There are carpools and practices and homework and appointments. There are kids growing up faster than we'd like. There are celebrations and disappointments and unexpected turns.
There are days when we're trying to take care of everyone else and wondering if any of the little things we're doing really matter.
I believe they do.
The meal you put on the table matters.
The way your home makes someone feel matters.
The conversations in the car matter.
Opening your door to someone matters.
Teaching your children where their identity is found matters.
Choosing faith when you can't see what's ahead matters.
And sometimes, we just need someone to remind us of that.
The older my kids get, the more I’m realizing how much those ordinary opportunities to be together matter—and why I want to gather while they’re still home.
That's Why Rooted & Gathered Is Here
Rooted & Gathered is my little corner of the world where I hope I can cheer you on.
Not because I have everything figured out.
I don't.
I'm right here in the middle of it too.
But I can share what I'm learning about creating a home and family life rooted in faith and gathered around what matters most.
Sometimes that looks like a healthy dinner that makes a busy weeknight a little easier.
Sometimes it's creating a warm home, setting a beautiful table, or holding onto a family tradition.
Sometimes it's opening our door and making room for more people around it.
And sometimes it's simply slowing down long enough to recognize that the ordinary things we're doing every day may be some of the most important things we ever do.
That's what I want Rooted & Gathered to be about.
Faith. Home. Family. Food. Traditions. Gathering.
Not as separate pieces of life, but as pieces that belong together.
Because the older I get, the more convinced I become that so much of the life we're building happens in the ordinary.
Faithful in the Ordinary
I don't know exactly where God will take Rooted & Gathered.
And for once, I don't feel like I need to know.
Maybe it will grow into something I can't imagine yet. Maybe it will reach one woman on a day when she needs a dinner idea, a little encouragement, or simply a reminder that what she's doing matters.
Either way, that's enough reason to keep following the tug.
God placed it on my heart.
I'm choosing to follow it.
And if something you find here helps you create a warmer home, gather your people, feed your family well, hold onto a tradition, strengthen your faith, or simply notice the good that's already happening around you, then Rooted & Gathered is doing exactly what I hope it will do.
So, welcome in.
I'm really glad you're here.
Faithful in the ordinary. 🤎
Gather well,
Heather
